Corneille (Cornelis Guillaume van Beverloo) was a Dutch painter. In 1948, together with others including Karel Appel, he founded the Cobra movement. This was an avant-garde art group, active in the years 1948 to 1951. From 1960 he fell back to more figurative art with abstract elements. The many travels he has made largely determine the nature of his colourful work.
