Félicien Rops was a Belgian artist of the 19th century, known for his often erotic and satirical prints. His work combines symbolism with sharp social criticism. Rops was friends with several literary figures, including Charles Baudelaire.

The figure Mam’zelle Gavroche, a bold, free young woman, embodies the Parisian esprit and rebellious energy of the 19th century. Combined with poetic lyrics full of ambiguity and desire, he creates a tantalizing commentary on gender, sexuality and social conventions.
