Henri Matisse was a French artist and one of the leading figures of modern art, known for his vibrant colors and innovative approaches to form and composition. He was a pioneer of fauvism. The heliogravure Nue Debout (standing nude), published in 1938 by Tériade, is a powerful example of the abstract approach to the female nude figure that characterized Matisse’s later work.
